| Val Thorens Valley Mountain Restaurants |
Oxalys (in the resort just after the ski bridge at the bottom of Pluviometre) +33 (0)4 79 00 12 00 | Gastronomic restaurant – exquisite modern food for surprisingly reasonable prices. Awarded a Michelin star in March 2006. |
| Les Deux Lacs (top of Deux Lacs chair) +33 (0)4 79 00 28 54 Sweet chalet-style restaurant serving generous portions of decent food in an otherwise gastronomically-challenged part of the ski area. Serves great pizzas and can get very busy at peak times. A small hut to one side caters for skiers or boarders in a hurry or on a smaller budget. |
The Plein Sud is just below the the top of the Plein Sud chair. It has a large terrasse and mainly caters for self-serve, although hidden round a corner is a second smaller terrasse for restaurant customers. The duck, lamb and gambas are all terrific, but it is generally necessary to reserve. As its name suggests it is in full sun and can be very popular.
Chalet de la Marine – on the way down from the Peclet area just below the top of the Cascades chairlift on the Dalles piste. It was recently converted using ancient wood and stone and is typically Savoyard. Lovely food and views over Val thorens and the Belleville Valley beyond. Best Osso Bucco in the Three Valleys. It now has its own website: www.chaletmarine.com .+33 (0)4 79 00 03 12
Chalet des 2 Ours is in the Boismint area. Large terrasse and also indoor restaurant. Plat de Jour is very reasonable and good. There is lots of space on the edge of the piste to park skis and boards.
Le Caribou, formerly known as Le Genepi, high up on the Moraine sector. Great for holing up in bad weather. Central log fire surrounded by table and long benches. Vin chaud to knock your socks off – just what is in them? |

| St Martin & Les Menuires Mountain Restaurants |
Le Montagnard (in St Martin – 50m from the bottom of the draglift) +33 (0)4 79 01 08 40
Rustic setting in the old village. No terrace but excellent, beautifully-presented food at very reasonable price.
La Bouitte (in the village of St Marcel – you need to phone to be picked up by a vehicle from St Martin, or ski there off-piste). +33 (0)4 79 08 96 77
Fabulous gastronomic food – deserves its Michelin star. Arrange a helicopter to take you home again.
Le Mont de la Chambre – a self-service restaurant situated at the top of the Mont de la Chambre chairlift and Bruyères telecabine. Panoramic views all round.
L’Alpage – on the piste des 4 Vents. Great mountain restaurant with a Savoyard ambience, and always very popular.
Restaurant les Roches Blanches – between the telecabines La Masse 1 and 2. Popular restaurant with wooden multi-level interior and sunny terrasse. Good value.
Restaurant Roc des 3 Marches – popular self-service restaurant at the top of the new (this season) 6-seater Roc des 3 Marches chair which has replaced the old orange Allamands chair. It has great panoramic views and makes for a good rendez-vous being also at the top of Les Granges chair and the Plattières 3-stage bubble from Courchevel.
Le Grand Lac – becoming more and more popular and now in its third season. Situated at the bottom of the Granges chair in the St Martin sector. Great sun deck and children welcome. |

| Mountain Restaurants in the Evening |
Various places offer you an evening on the mountain, with different ways of getting there and back. The very rustic Refuge la Traie above Les Allues will arrange evenings or overnight stays. You will be picked up by snowscooter, and can return the same way or descend by toboggan or on foot.
Tel. 0479005726
The Arpasson Restaurant on the piste near Tougnete 2 gondola will arrange evenings for a minimum of 15 persons. They collect and drop you off with snow scooters
Tel. 0479085479
To eat at the Cote 2000 restaurant above Mottaret you will need to take the last lift up (c. 4.45pm) and ski to the restaurant. After the meal enjoy a torchlight descent back to Mottaret or Courchevel with an instructor. You will need a minimum of around ten people.
Tel. 0479005540
A tamer option is the Hotel Adray Telebar on the piste in Courchevel itself. It is just a short hop via their mini piste vehicle from the Rond Point to the hotel, but for children this ride is quite fun.
