Méribel and Courchevel Tourist Offices have confirmed today that the official start of the season will be postponed owing to inadequate snow conditions.

Méribel Tourist Office Director Christophe Gernicon-Lecomte said today: “As a result of climatic conditions, the Méribel Valley ski area, as well as that of the 3 Vallées, is postponing its opening until 13 December 2014”.

Courchevel Tourist Office today said: “Our teams are ready for an opening at the start of next week and for 13 December at the latest.”

Val Thorens partially opened on 22 November and already has 22 open ski runs and 12 open lifts.

The news of the 3 Vallées opening being postponed comes after an unusually mild November. Although there have been snowfalls over the past few weeks, snow has melted on the lower slopes, remaining only in higher areas.

Lower temperatures are forecast for the end of this week with snow expected to fall from Monday.
