Lucky Escape for a British Snowboarder Caught in an Avalanche this Weekend

Rescued in Val Thorens, the man was able to call for help

A young British skier was this weekend caught in an avalanche in an off-pitste section between Meribel and Val Thorens and luckily escaped unharmed. Although he did not have any avalanche equipment he was able to raise the alarm by phone and was successfully located by the rescue team.

After such a delayed start to the season the snow is now falling thick and fast in the Three Valleys although with it also comes rain and wind.

Conditions are not ideal and skiers/snowboarders really need to take caution. The last couple of days has seen many higher areas closed due to avalanche risk and high winds with skiers encouraged to stay in the valley in which they are staying. Please ensure that you ski with caution, off piste is not advised at the current time however if you are desperate to venture off make sure that you are well equipped and ideally not skiing alone.

The forecast is looking clearer for next week so just be patient and enjoy the well groomed pistes where skiing is advised.
