Two Separate Avalanches in Orelle Injure A Skier & A Snowboarder

Two people seriously injured in separate avalanches yesterday

Around midday yesterday two avalanches, which occurred separately but within minutes of each other in off piste areas of the Orelle ski area, resulted in serious injuries to a snowboarder and a skier.

One group of four snowboarders were caught in a slide which left three of them trapped by a rocky ledge, but unfortunately swept the fourth person away and buried him. Pisteurs quickly rescued the person who had sustained a number of fractures and was taken to hospital in Grenoble to be treated.

The second avalanche happened close to the first, and involved 4 skiers. One of the party was buried under snow for around 20 minutes and had to be revived with heart massage and was also found to be suffering from hypothermia. The PGHM of Courchevel came to the rescue, and he was also taken to Grenoble for treatment. His condition remains serious.

We wish both people a speedy recovery.
