Local Area

Tourism in the Courchevel Valley started as early as the beginning of the Twentieth Century with summer holidays rather than winter. The first skiers arrived in Courchevel in the 1930's and the development plan for a ski resort with the help of Lauren Chappis in the 1940's. The official name of 'Courchevel' was decided upon in 1946 along with the creation of the first hotel 'Trois Vallees Hotel'. The first ski lifts were installed towards the end of 1946 by Jean Pomagalski joining Courchevel Village to Courcehvel. By the late 1950's the resort consisted of; one cable car, three gondalas, six ski lifts and 210 buildings for accommodation. Development continued and over fifty years later there is currently 58 ski lifts and 150km of piste along with four separate resorts; Courchevel, Courchevel Moriond, Courchevel Village and Le Praz.

Local Town

The resort of Courchevel is so extensive many people visit without actually skiing! There is every type of shop you can imagine from ski wear, clothes, footwear and jewellery to gifts and groceries. A great resort with lots of events throughout both summer and winter.

Local Restaurants

Courchevel has a huge range of restaurants, the choice is vast - you can eat in an igloo, have fondue and champagne in a Yhurt, have dinner at a woodcutters lodge and sledge back to your accommodation or drink mulled wine around a camp fire in a teepee! If you're looking for something less rustic you can enjoy seafood at 2000m at Le Cap Horn, treat yourself to 1* Michelin at Baumaniere 1850, upgrade to 2* Michelin at Le Chabichou, go Italian at Le Cenduee, enjoy traditional French cuisine at Le Mangeoire, try Asian Cuisine at Le Grand Cafe, sushi at Le Tremplin and Oysters at Exodus Cafe. If you want a good burger then try Jacks Burger or just a snack at La Grange A Pizza.

Local Activities

There are numerous activites in Courchevel in both summer and winter. During the winter there are some really unique activities for a ski holiday such as; hand gliding, helicopter tours, ice climbing, ice skating, tandem skydive, sledge and toboggan. There's even the opportunity to drive a piste basher! In the summer along with walking and mountain biking you can take part in activities such as archery, climbing, cookery lessons and paintball.

Local Golf-clubs

On the Les Verdons platueau in Courchevel there is a nine hole golf course. There is also a driving range with 27 bays including seven covered bays along with pitching and putting greens.

Local Ski-lift or Piste

The main lift hub for Courchevel is conveniently in the centre of the resort. There are a choice of 4 lifts directly from the snow front or if you would rather start skiing straight away you can ski down to Courchevel Village and Le Praz. The first of the four main lifts is the Chenus Bubble Lift which leads over towards the Col de la Loze Chair Lift connection with Meribel and La Tania. The Verdons Bubbe Lift which takes you to the top of resort where there are also connections to Meribel and skiing towards Courchevel Moriond. The Verdons lift is split into two halves, the first provides access to gentle greens and blues and the second more challenging reds and blacks. The remaining two options from the snow front are the Jardin Alpin Bubble Lift and the Bellecote Drag lift which both lead to beginner areas. If queues are particularly busy first thing in the morning, it is worth taking a short ski from the snow front to the Plantrey Chair Lift from where you can ski down to La Tania or take connections to Meribel.
