l'Arc en Ciel restaurant review

Lovely little restaurant in Courchevel Moriond serving great pizzas

L’Arc en Ciel is a popular restaurant just off the piste in Courchevel Moriond. It has funky, alpine décor which gives this place an authentic feel. Along with Savoyard specialities, the restaurant is also well known for their pizzas.

As you arrive into Courchevel Moriond from the piste, it appears that there are only a few hotel restaurants to choose from, however if you head to the passageway on the right, it leads on to a side road called ‘Rue de Marquis’. There are many restaurants dotted along this road with a range of cuisines to choose from. I was attracted to l’Arc en Ciel restaurant as it had a large outdoor seating area which was perfect for catching the sun’s rays and it also had a great menu to choose from.

The French love their pizzas and apparently, they are the third highest pizza consumers in Europe behind Germany and the UK! So, when it came to choosing from the menu, I picked pizza due to rumours that this place makes the best in Courchevel. They are all made with homemade dough with a variety of toppings. There are the usual flavours such as margarita, vegetarian and four cheese and the non-traditional toppings like Savoyard, oriental and the L’Arc en Ciel special. This one is made up of fresh tomatoes, tomato sauce, pesto, bacon, parmesan, Emmental, mozzarella, rocket and olives.

I decided to go for the La Fermiѐre pizza which was €15.90 and came topped with goats cheese, olives, honey and walnuts. I'm not a massive fan of walnuts and as luck would have it, they had run out so they were replaced with flaked almonds. It was delicious, really filling and the homemade base was rolled out to a perfectly thin and crispy consistency.

To spice up your pizza, the staff give you a bottle of homemade infused chilli oil to drizzle at your own risk. The pizza menu is priced between €10 - €16 which is very reasonable for the quality and quantity. The staff are friendly and attentive and the service was very quick. As well as pizzas, they also serve typical Savoyard specialities such as raclette and fondue and top quality steak dishes.

I sat outside to enjoy the sunshine and there were many other groups of diners doing the same thing. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. If you don’t manage to grab a table on the terrace, then there is plenty of indoor seating. The interior décor is typical of an alpine restaurant with a ski chalet feel. There are vintage skis and old style photographs donning the wooden walls. As this restaurant is easily accessible from the piste or free ski bus, it gets a variety of skiing and non-skiing diners.

It is the perfect spot for an al fresco lunch or traditional evening meal, open every day from 12:00 to 22:00 and it's advisable to book ahead for large groups.

There are a couple of free car parking spaces available down from the restaurant on the ‘Rue de Marquis’ or you can park right next door at the ‘Cimes Blanches’ car park where the first hour is free. If you have skied into Courchevel Moriond, then you can access ‘Rue de Marquis’ road by heading right, away from Ariondaz gondola station and taking the steps down past the crèche. You will find L’Arc en Ciel next door to the Spar supermarket.

L’Arc en Ciel is a charming restaurant with fresh homemade food and welcoming staff. I would like to visit this restaurant again to sample some Savoyard specialities and another amazing pizza.
