Le Blanchot Restaurant Review

Still the same fantastic food at more reasonable prices in a great atmosphere

Le Blanchot changed owners at the start of the 2013/4 winter season, and it is now Bernard who greets his guests with a warm welcome and glass of champagne at the bar. We visited on the first day of the winter season to see what changes he has made.

We were glad to discover the new, young and enthusiastic chef is continuing le Blanchot’s tradition of high quality, modern French/international cuisine. We were even more pleased to see that the prices are now much more reasonable: main courses range from 13 to 35€ and there is a good value three-course set menu for 40€.

Many of the most popular dishes are still on the menu: Pata negra ham for starter; risotto with gambas or truffles; and a choice of fresh fish dishes. The menu will change through the season, but you can expect to find such dishes as confit lamb shank cooked at 63C with melting vegetable (20€) or slow-cooked suckling pig with a potato galette with Beaufort cheese heart (25€).

The desserts looked equally delicious, but having eaten too much already we had to restrict ourselves to a coffee with mini-desserts (10€) all of which were excellent.

The lengthy wine list will delight any connoisseur of fine French wines. Unusually, it offers a selection of superior Savoy wines – the white Rousettes and Chignin Bergerons are particularly worth trying. Wine are now priced much more reasonably – Bernard says he has lowered the prices by around 20%.

“Professionalism with a smile” is his stated aim and indeed we were impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of his new team. Despite the fact we visited on the first day of the season when the restaurant was full, we were very well looked after.

The restaurant feels more spacious and a little more comfortable than before, thanks to a reduction in the number of tables both inside and out – another example of Bernard’s determination to ensure a meal at le Blanchot is as enjoyable as possible.

The restaurant is open during the summer season with the terrace overlooking Méribel’s golf course. Whether you arrive at the Blanchot by skis, car or golf buggy you are sure of an excellent meal in delightful surroundings.
